What happens when you change your address---???

The IRS now uses the US Postal Service National Change of Address database to update address information weekly. If a taxpayer's name and address on file with the IRS match the name and old address in the post office database, the new address in the post office database will become the taxpayer's last known address for tax purposes. A taxpayer who files a change of address with the Post Office but does not want to change his/her address with the IRS must file Form 8822, Change of Address. A return filed with new address information will also update the taxpayer's IRS address of record.
